At the first part of the semester I found myself confused on what the point of informatics was. As the semester has gone on though I am starting to see more and more how the different activities and problem solving methods we are working with translate to real life situations. Although some of the programs we learned about felt kind of pointless most of the new programs I have been introduced to have been fun to work with. I am realizing how informatics correlates to so many different fields of work and career opportunities. I feel the aspect I have learned that is the most beneficial is problem solving and the different methods used to solve certain problems in your every day life.

I think that data is used to solve problems all of the time. I think the biggest reason I agree with that is because different data gives us the ability to compare and analyze. The reason we collect data is to keep records and marks on everything over time and after the data is collected we can review it and come up with the problem if any the reason for the problem and the possible solution to fixing that problem. For example, McDonalds could collect the data on how many customers buy each type of sandwich or other food item and see what is the most popular and see what is least popular and consider adding or eliminating one of items. With data it gives us so much opportunity to analyze and try to come up with solutions.

Data can be used to solve all kinds of problem. That’s why companies go through so much trouble to collect it. When sales are down at Walmart, they don’t sit around scratching their heads for ideas. They could consult their massive data bases and do product association. When they figure out what products go hand and hand, they can put one on sale in hopes to raise sales of the other.

Data is the most valuable resource other than diamonds, in my opinion. It is used to turn into knowledge, and knowledge isn’t something around every corner. Credit card companies, medical offices, insurance sales… everywhere wants it.

So far I have really enjoyed the class. I decided to take this class in order to figure out whether I wanted to do Informatics or Computer Science, because to be completely honest I really did not have any idea as to what informatics was. I now know that computer science builds the technology and tools, and informatics finds ways to apply the technology and or tools in the real world. Everything I have learned so far in I101 has been enjoyable (excluding Alice). I really liked working with HTML and learning about problem solving, and the different problem solving mistakes that people make. Binary was also very interesting, because I never understood how it worked and I was always curious. At this point I think I want to go into informatics opposed to computer science. I’m looking forward to leaning whatever it is that we will be learning during the rest of the semester.

During this whole semester I feel a lot of changes on myself which just because of the i101 class. I used know nothing about the computer except games, music, moves and internet. Along with the class I knew what is a website, how to create a website, foundation of the computer and what is informatics and computer science. The class is pretty great. I love the lab class because I can learn a lot in the class. I do not like the lecture class as the lab class , because I think it’s a little bit boring in it.

The most challenging for me in this class is that do everything I learned perfect. Because I learned tons of new things in these class, Always meet new thing and each of them makes my very excited! I want to well-use all the things I have ever learned.

In my opinion, one of the most important things I learned is that I knew the different between informatics and computer science and I made a choice between them. I choose the Computer Science as my major. Because I think there have much fun in building program. The chief reason is that I prefer to be a creator than to be a user. In my personal perspective, Computer Science engineer is who build and create the tools for people to solve their problems. Informatics engineer is who well-use the tools which built by and created by Computer Science engineer to help people solve their problems.

Also the problem sloving ways is one of the most important things I have learned I think. I use logical thinking more. Because I think the logical thinking is quite important for us especially in daily life. We will use logical thinking in our daily life for example buy something , choose place to eat. We use logical thinking when we buy something that’s why we always do not buy a bad thing with a high price. Logical thinking sometimes could be the best way to solve problems with a lowest cost. A good data can easily solve hard problems.

The other thing I think is the most important things I have learned in this class is that I knew the importance of a data. And data is a very important part of problem-solving. For example, the global warming. The way we define the global warming is temperature. Without the data of temperature in every year around the world we cannot make sure there is a Greenhouse effect appeared. Also without a clear , real and accurate data the problem cannot be solved.

Blog 5 what i have learned

So far I have learned that there is larger difference between computer science and informatics than many people think. While computer science builds tools to help people in different aspects of their lives, informatics finds ways to best utilize these tools. I have also learned some of the ways to approach problems and ways to avoid making judgment errors that plague many people when they attempt to think in a logical manner. I have also learned about the type of careers that people can enter into when they get an informatics degree. I thought it was interesting the number of people that actually take roles in the business field. I had always assumed that informatics people always went into programming type rolls rather than rolls that involve skills outside of the realm of informatics.

Final Reflection of I101

I101 has really opened my eyes to the growing demand for Informatics. Prior to this class I had no idea what informatics was or how major a factor it has become in nearly every field. This course was fairly fast paced for me, likely stemming from the fact that I wasn’t previously technology savvy. However I was able to push through it and get additional help at office hours, which were always very helpful.

From this course I’ve become aware of the fact that for some classes I do work at a slower pace and may not learn new material at the same speed as my peers. I’ve learned that is okay though, because I can still learn the material at my own pace and just need to get extra help and utilize my resources, such as office hours.

The part of this class that I found most interesting was learning about how fast the technology industry is booming. I also enjoyed learning about how the advancement of technology has enabled us to better understand global trends. One example of this is when we were learning how fast other countries like China and India are growing. I found facts like how India has more ‘honors students’ (by American standards) than America has children very interesting and these types of interesting facts have spurred discussion and contemplation from me and my friends about these matters.

Another really cool thing that stood out to me was about how the military has been using technology, and developed that almost horse like machine, big dog, for transportation across virtually any terrain (except water). I thought it was very cool how they gave it almost life like qualities, like the fact that it is able to negotiate a path and has stabilizing sensors.

Overall I enjoyed taking this class and decided to further pursue Informatics by taking I202 next semester.

We can use data to solve many problems in the real world problems. Example of data, we can use the terms information and knowledge are frequently used for overlapping concepts. I think Data is the lowest level of abstraction, and finally knowledge is the highest level. Information as a concept has many meanings, from everyday usage to technical settings. Knowledge acquisition involves complex cognitive processes: perception, learning, communication, and reasoning.

This class has been fairly interesting thus far. I’ve learned about how Informatics can be applied to almost every field; including business which I’m interested in. This has changed my perception of informatics from something that was its own separate entity to something more connected to any part of life or any career path. It is fairly essential in business to keep up with technology and informatics is that link that supports this.

Data can be used to solve problems in a number of ways. When a problem arises data is often used to help explain or clarify the situation at hand. For example if we claim to have a problem with parking at IU we can do research from students, faculty, and guests about what they think of the current parking situation. We can then use this data that we record to make a more accurate judgment or analysis of the situation.
